Welcome to MoonLights

Good nights start with good evenings.

We created this guide to help you make the hours after dark a little calmer, cozier and more comfortable — from the moment the sun goes down to when you finally turn in.

Inside you'll find simple ways to create a more evening-friendly environment, including tips on lighting, winding down and making your bedroom a better place for sleep.

As the sun goes down, our homes often do the opposite. Bright white lights come on, screens get brighter and the house becomes almost as bright as it was in the middle of the day.

We think evenings can be softer.

Not complicated. Not perfect. Just a little calmer.

Here are a few simple things we like to do.

---

1. Let the evening get darker

As daylight fades, let your home follow it.

Turn down the brightness. Switch off the big overhead lights where you can and use smaller, warmer lights instead.

Amber light creates a softer atmosphere that feels much more natural in the evening.

And it makes a room feel cosy without needing to fill it with candles or turn the whole house into a cave.

Our rule: if you wouldn't want it shining in your face around a campfire, you probably don't need it on full brightness at 9pm.

---

2. Make your lighting part of the evening

You don't have to wait until bedtime to make things darker.

Try switching to your evening lighting around dinner time.

Cook with brighter light when you need to see what you're doing, then let the room soften once the cooking is done.

Eat dinner in warm, gentle light.

Read. Talk. Listen to music. Have a cup of tea.

The aim isn't to create a perfect sleep environment.

It's simply to give your body and brain a clear change of pace from daytime.

---

3. Keep bright white light for when you need it

White light has its place.

It's great for finding something in a cupboard, cleaning the kitchen or chopping an onion without losing a finger.

But once the jobs are done, you don't necessarily need all that brightness.

MoonLights are designed for the other moments.

The moments when you want enough light to see, without making the room feel like daytime.

---

4. Make nighttime trips easier

This is where we really fell in love with amber light.

A bright bathroom light in the middle of the night can feel like someone has switched the sun back on.

A soft guiding light is different.

Put your Glow Guide somewhere along the path to the bathroom, nursery or kitchen.

It gives you enough light to see where you're going without lighting up the whole house.

Especially useful when you're half asleep.

Or when there's a baby involved.

---

5. Give your phone a little less attention

You don't have to throw your phone into a drawer at 7pm.

But if you're trying to wind down, make it easier on yourself.

Turn down the brightness. Use night mode. Avoid endlessly scrolling once you're already tired.

Better still, give yourself a little time without a screen before bed.

A few quiet pages of a book can be surprisingly good company.

---

6. Keep your bedroom for sleep

A cool, comfortable, reasonably dark bedroom can make settling down easier.

Keep unnecessary lights off and avoid having bright lights or glowing screens around your bed.

If you need light during the night, keep it low and warm.

The goal is simple:

see what you need to see, without waking yourself up more than necessary.

---

7. Find a routine that feels good

There is no perfect bedtime routine.

Maybe yours is a shower, a book and bed.

Maybe it's dinner, a chat on the sofa and an early night.

Maybe it's feeding the baby, tidying the kitchen and finally getting five quiet minutes to yourself.

What matters is creating a familiar transition between doing and resting.

Small things repeated regularly can become powerful cues that the day is winding down.

Your simple evening ritual

Dusk

Start softening the lighting around your home.

Dinner

Keep things warm and comfortable. Use brighter light only where you need it.

Wind down

Dim the lights. Put the phone down when you can. Do something that feels calm.

Bedtime

Keep the bedroom dark, comfortable and free from unnecessary light.

During the night

Use a soft amber Glow Guide if you need to get up.

Morning

Let the daylight back in. Your evening can be soft because your morning can be bright.

You don't need to change everything. Start with one light. Then notice how your evening feels.
